Margaret Kim (Deputy Secretary CAL-EPA), La Ronda Bowen (Ombudsman ARB), James N. Goldstene (Executive Officer ARB) with Jeff Mathias and Michael Pane (Synergy co-owners) and Synergy team.
SACRAMENTO- On May 3rd, The California Air Resources Board (ARB) and
CoolCalifornia.org announced the 23 winners of the state's program recognizing small
businesses from across the state that have demonstrated exceptional success saving
money while reducing their climate impact.
"These California small business owners demonstrate passion and conviction for
reducing their impact on the environment," said ARB Chairman Mary D. Nichols. "And
they continue to think of ways to improve operations and save money while educating
their peers, clients and employees about climate-smart actions."
Synergy Solar & Electrical Systems, Inc. was chosen as one of the 18 Climate Leaders
in California. These businesses took an array of actions to save money and improve
their operations, facilities and practices while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Steps taken include installation of compact fluorescent lights, solar panels and energy efficient
computer servers; elimination of toxins and solvents; use of eco-friendly
products; and, adding automated thermostats and lighting fixtures.
Synergy is locally owned and based in Sebastopol, and has been serving all of Sonoma
County for 20 years. Synergy's business philosophy of focusing efforts on their local
community, minimizing waste, promoting aggressive recycling, and implementing energy
efficiency measures were the basis for receiving this award. Michael Pane, Chief
Operating Officer and Co-Owner of Synergy, stated, "It's our business to lower energy
usage for our customers, and it only makes sense we use this same philosophy in our
own operations. We're not going to rest on our laurels, but will continue to find new ways
to lower our carbon footprint."
Jeff Mathias, Chief Financial Officer, and Co-Owner believes, "It is not only in our best
interest to focus on energy and operational efficiencies to reduce our carbon foot print, it
also makes sense financially. By focusing on our local community, buying from local
suppliers, and reducing our waste we are saving money. Our employees have more
time on the job site, we lower our transportation charges and run more efficiently, it just
makes sense."
